Goodbye to a Godly Lady

Last week Bryan, Brylee, and I loaded our car with his sister and nephew, Lori and Luke, to head to Pittsfield, IL to be with Bryan's family to say goodbye to his Grandma Brokaw. We hadn't planned on making the 13 hour trip to IL this year, but were very grateful we were able to be with his family in their time of loss. Bryan's grandmother was so sweet and loving, slightly soft spoken, and a very good cook. One of the neatest things about her was her commitment to celebrate every birthday and anniversary with her kids and grandkids. She managed her life with Parkinson's disease for many years, and as she lost her ability to hand write notes and cards, she learned how to use Facebook and would wish each and every one of us a happy birthday or anniversary via a short post on our Facebook page! I can guarantee we all knew we were loved by Grandma Brokaw.

Their church hosted a dinner for the entire family after the funeral services. And although funerals can be a time to mourn, I think everyone had a good time being with family!

Bryan is one of 16 cousins on his dad's side of the family, and they were all there!
Then we added cousins' spouses to the picture...
...then spouses plus children! It started to get a little crazy!

Bryan's dad is one of four boys

Brylee did great during the long day, and had fun playing in their church with some of her second cousins

Bryan's immediate family who was able to be there

Bryan's Grandpa Brokaw lives at a nursing facility with Alzheimer's dementia. I know he is missing his partner and love right now. Luke was trying to show him a game on the ipod.

We love you, Grandpa Brokaw!

  1. Great pictures, Jamie. Sad for sure, but great to be with family.
